Q:What inspired you to get involved in ocean resource management?
I wanted to help people better communicate the challenges we face and prepare for what the future brings in terms of climate change and ocean resource management.
Q:Can you describe your role on the MARCO Management Board?
As the New Jersey Member of the MARCO Management Board, I participate in discussions and initiatives that focus on various aspects of ocean resource management, particularly concerning communications and marine debris.
Q:What are your daily job duties?
I work with New Jersey communities to communicate climate change risks through social media campaigns, art grant programs, and encouraging residents to share their experiences via the MyCoast NJ application.
Q:What are the most fun and the most challenging parts of your job?
The most challenging part is communicating science-based data about climate change and coastal flooding in accessible ways. The most fun part is witnessing community engagement and the positive responses to these creative projects.
Q:What is the most pressing ocean resource issue in New Jersey, in your opinion?
I believe environmental justice is a significant focus in our state. It’s essential to ensure that resources and opportunities are accessible to everyone, particularly underrepresented communities. This inclusivity can help us adapt to environmental changes more effectively.
Q:What is your hope for the future of ocean resource management?
I hope that ocean resource management continues to flourish through collaboration with neighboring states, allowing us to learn new techniques and approaches to improve the management of resources we all share.
