States Receive Assistance As Part of the $300 Million Federal CARES Act

New Jersey: The Murphy Administration is making $11.2 million in financial assistance available to commercial and recreational fishing businesses impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency, Governor Phil Murphy and the Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Catherine R. McCabe announced 10/22020.The funding is available as grants to eligible businesses that document a 35-percent loss in revenues as a result of the pandemic. Virginia: is receiving about $4M of CARES financial assistance for the fishing/aquaculture industry.  The round one application process for the funding opened on Tuesday, October 13 and will run through Friday, October 30, 2020. New York’s Geographic Information Gateway (Gateway) News: New Risk Areas data layer

New York’s GIS Team has developed new (Department of State) Risk Areas for the Hudson River coast up to the Troy Federal Dam, the inland extent of New York’s Coastal Area, data layer available for viewing on the Gateway. DOS Risk Areas were first derived and used in 2012 for New York Rising Community Reconstruction planning carried out in the wake of Hurricane Sandy (which also included communities affected by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee), the areas are a compilation of regulatory flood maps, inundation, and erosion models resulting in Extreme, High and Moderate risk areas. In addition, a companion Risk Assessment Tool has been customized for landscapes found along the Hudson River Shoreline, this resource is available on the Climate Change and Resilience focus area’s Additional Resources section of the Gateway.  Read more about the Gateway

Maryland, Virginia Sign Offshore Wind Collaborative MOU

The Governors of Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina have signed the first offshore wind collaborative memorandum of understanding in the nation. This landmark agreement will create partnerships around workforce, state and federal policy, supply chain and stakeholder engagement to benefit all states.
